We found a vinegaroon when we arrived at our new house! It’s a type of creature that looks like a scorpion, but it’s not. We learned that we really can’t forget to check our shoes! If you leave your shoes outside, you have to check that there isn’t a vinegaroon or a scorpion or a child of the earth in them!

A vinegaroon is smaller than a scorpion, and their tail isn’t like a scorpion’s tail. Its tail isn’t segmented like a scorpion, and they have different looking stingers. We aren’t even sure if the vinegaroon had a stinger at all.
Vinegaroons and scorpions are arachnids, and have more legs than insects.

I really wouldn’t like to see a vinegaroon in my shoe. Hope they don’t sting. You are learning a lot of interesting things in Mexico.

They don’t have stingers, poison, or venom, the very least they can do is a defensive spray if they feel threatened of acetic acid (85%) which is the same ingredient in vinegar, just a really higher concentration. It basically smells like vinegar but much stronger. They have pedipalps but I’ve never been pinched before, nor have I been sprayed, I own four Vinegaroons.
