Honores a la Bandera (honoring the Mexican flag)

Albie

On Mondays at school, we wear a special blue shirt and honor the Mexican flag. Today was the first time we did it. We did the pledge except it wasn’t actually the pledge, it was a song about Mexico. We put our hands like you would do for the pledge, but with them sort of lifted up. It was in our playground. I didn’t know the song, but I just sort of followed along. Instead of “Mexico” it was pronounced “Meheeko.”

It was fun except that we had to stand up for all of it. I wanted to sit down but the teacher said I couldn’t. I tried to but it didn’t work. I was sort of bending my knees a little bit, but I was allowed to to do that though.

My friends were at the honoring of the flag, and the whole school. It was in the middle of the day and everyone went out to the basketball field. There was one student actually holding the flag, and there were a couple of other students marching with the student holding the flag. They were marching in the middle of where we were. Everyone was wearing blue shirts or white shirts. The people marching were wearing white shirts. It was a little serious. I really liked it.

School lunches

Noah

The school lunches often have some sort of bread and pasta for some reason. They’re nice. The spaghetti, cheese and tomato sauce was my favourite.

We once got Mexican food that was a type of soup that looked spicy but wasn’t. We also got enchiladas with meat and beans this week — I liked it. The cafeteria is outdoors and we eat outdoors. There’s a little serving area under the roof.

Recycling

Sunset in Sayulita. Protect our earth!

Noah

Recycling is very good. It helps save the world from getting trashed, because otherwise trash all gets put in landfills and the landfills get filled up, and they have to make more, and eventually the earth is just one giant landfill. The playpark we went to today was made out of recycled stuff — tyres, old beams and glass. That was cool because it’s good to use up old things.

San Pancho is a couple of miles from Sayulita. It’s a fun area. It was super fun. The waves at the beach were very big. I avoided getting swept away by holding onto my dad. The water got deep very quickly.

We went a playpark where everything was made from recycling. The swings were tyres, and the anchor on the big toy ship was also tyres. The swings were held up by a recycled steel bar. The concrete had recycled stained glass in it. It was cool — you were literally walking on glass but with concrete under it.

Blister beetle

Our dad got assaulted by an injured blister beetle. The beetle released venom that had dangerous venemous emzymes that cause blisters. Our dad had orange swollen things on his neck on the first day, and then they burst and turned into purple scars. Our dad overreacted a bit about it.

Our new school

Noah

We went to our new school for the first time yesterday, to pick up our uniforms. I felt scared but also excited. It was cool, with a pretty big playground. I saw my friend Mateo there. He was playing soccer. The playground was large. There was a little watermelon house — a house that was painted red with little black seeds. I had fun on the playground. I ran around and threw some hoops.

On Mondays, you wear a blue shirt and shorts, and the other days you wear a green shirt and shorts. I don’t know why yet!
